Baseball Divisions
Tee Ball Baseball is for boys and girls 5-6 years old who want to learn the fundamentals of hitting and fielding. In Tee Ball, players hit a ball off a batting tee. Rules of the game may be varied to accommodate the need for teaching. The primary goals of Tee Ball are to instruct children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Rosters may be composed of between 12 and 20 players, but most leagues have rosters in the 12-15 range. No live pitching is permitted in this division. Generally, the diamond used is a 60-foot diamond, but the league has the option to use a 50-foot diamond.
Coach Pitch Baseball (C-Ball) is part of the minor league baseball program. This division is usually comprised of boys and girls 7-8 years old. (There are other options and exceptions.) The Coach pitches the baseball to the players in an effort to teach them hand/eye coordination with a moving ball. The Rules of the game are standard with the Minor League Rule Book. The primary goal is the instruct the children in the fundamentals of baseball and to allow them to experience the value of teamwork. Rosters may be composed of between 12 and 20 players, but most leagues have rosters in the 12-15 range. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet.
B-Ball (Minor League Baseball) is part of the minor league baseball program. This division is usually comprised of boys 9-11. (There are some options and exceptions.) The B Ball players pitch to one another. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet. At Sally Little League we don't permit 12 year olds to pitch to B Ball players. The primary goal is the prepare the players for the Major League Baseball program. We put their fundamentals to the test and focus on strategy.
A-Ball (Major League Baseball) is part of the major league baseball program. This division is usually comprised of boys 10-12 with a few exceptions. The A Ball players pitch to one another. The diamond used is a 60-foot diamond and the pitching distance is 46 feet. A Ball players should show consistent skills that were shown to them from Tee Ball level and up. They should move with confidence in the outfield and swing with pride on offense. The A Baller has a passion for baseball and in may cases is ready to move the the next level.
Junior League is a program for boys and girls ages 13-14, using a conventional 90-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 60 feet, 6 inches. (A modified diamond is available during the regular season.) The Jr. League players are serious baseball players that they have aspirations of playing baseball in highschool. They have a rigorous practice schedule and they usually play double-headers on Saturdays. There is only one other Jr. League team in Columbus so most of our opponents are from out of town. This makes for a very exciting season. |
